I was reminded recently of a great idea: send gifts to clients or customers at Thanksgiving instead of the holidays.
Three reasons this may work for you: gifts will stand out; they will not compete with other holiday gifts or cards; and Thanksgiving is a natural time to say ‘Thank you!’
One of my mentors, Steve Shannon, first shared this with me several years ago; I was reminded by Stacey Joiner, author of You Deserve The Royal Treatment, at a recent business meeting; and Dave Lorenzo, the Rainmaker Lawyer, and recent guest on the Live Passionately! blog talk radio show.
Here’s my plan to thank my wonderful clients and help people in need:

First, I’ll go to the Starfish Treasure website (where 100% of the money goes to specific needs in Haiti, Africa and South Florida) and select a gift: whether it’s a goat, sheep, donkey or access to fresh water for people in Haiti; books for children in Africa; or food for local children.
I’ve never given a goat for a gift before…it’ll be cool, don’t you think?
Second, complete the order, and send a check to the address noted on the form.
Third, send my clients a note thanking them for the opportunity of working together this past year. I’ll share that a life-changing gift has been given in their honor through Starfish Treasure!
Find a remarkable way to let your clients know they are special; if you don’t someone else will.
